Metro Vancouver Crime Stoppers Foundation
Mission Statement
Metro Vancouver Crime Stoppers Foundation raises and manages funding to support the continuing operation of Metro Vancouver Crime Stoppers Association. Sufficient funding ensures an ongoing ability to work with police and investigative partners to help reduce crime in our communities.
Metro Vancouver Crime Stoppers Association is a non-profit society and registered charity that provides the public with the opportunity to report suspected criminal activity anonymously without any fear of reprisal or having to go to court to testify. Recognizing the large number of languages spoken in Metro Vancouver, Crime Stoppers also provides a multilingual translation service. This service helps to solve many cases where information was previously difficult to track down. Metro Vancouver Crime Stoppers has been an innovator since its inception and is consistently ranked as one of the most effective Crime Stoppers programs in the world. Since the inception of Metro Vancouver Crime Stoppers, more than half a billion dollars in property have been recovered and almost 8,000 arrests have occurred as a result of these tips.

Plan a Gift in your Will
Leave a legacy of dignity and compassion by including a bequest of cash or a percentage of your estate to the Metro Vancouver Crime Stoppers Foundation. Your estate will receive a tax receipt for the value of the gift, which can be used to offset tax-otherwise payable. We would greatly appreciate being notified when you decide to make a planned gift in your will so that we can thank you appropriately. We recommend the following wording in your bequest, “To pay the sum of $__or__% of the residue of my estate to the Metro Vancouver Crime Stoppers Foundation to be applied by the Foundation Board of Directors at its discretion, for the general purposes of the Foundation”.
Stocks and Securities
The donation of securities instead of cash enables you to take full advantage of new legislation that makes gifts tax-free for you. You will receive a tax receipt for the full value of the appreciated securities, but will pay no tax on the growth of the securities. The tax receipt can be used to shelter other income by reducing the tax payable on capital gains.
RRSP/RRIF
Retirement funds are typically heavily-taxed; however, you can offset the burden by donating some of your RRSP or RRIF. Simply designate your gift to the Metro Vancouver Crime Stoppers Foundation on your financial institutions beneficiary designation form. A tax receipt will be issued for 100% of the RRSP or RRIF value in the year of disbursement.
Endowments
By establishing a fund where the capital remains intact, you can create a lasting legacy in the name of your family’s loved one. Annual interest earned can benefit an area of greatest need in helping make our communities a safer place to live.
Life Insurance and Annuities
Turn an immediate smaller gift into a larger future one, by choosing life insurance to enhance your giving. Smaller donations can be used to finance the annual premiums of a life insurance policy, which eventually will result in a much larger gift to the Foundation. Annual charitable tax receipts are issued for the value of the premiums paid. Alternatively, you may wish to leave an entire policy to the Foundation, enabling your estate to benefit from the tax receipt for a full value of the policy.
If you wish to combine your gift with an investment, an annuity is an excellent choice. This option results in a gift as well and often provides a stable, higher after-tax income to the donor. As a donor, you will earn a charitable donation tax credit if the amount of the lump sum gift is greater than the market price of the annuity. Depending on circumstances, an annuity combined with life insurance may also be an option.
We would be happy to work with you and your professional advisor to ensure the donation you choose to leave best suits your needs and wishes. Thank you for supporting the Metro Vancouver Crime Stoppers Foundation!
